FUTURISTIC SCI-FI INDIE FILM 'CONSUMPTION' CAST RHYM AS LEAD 'CORINNE'
Filmmaker Brittany Raffalak describes her new production 'Consumption': It is set in the near future, when scientists have developed a supplement that extinguishes the need to eat. It becomes accessible to any consumer and many are able to lose weight, but there are more than superficial improvements: poverty and hunger cease. The time spent on eating, cooking, and shopping is now used for lofty goals of success. Food and the act of consuming it is outlawed because it is seen as holding the nation back from progress. The Sanitation Organization is formed to remove those who still consume food from society. Sanitation is feared because of their callous methods of detoxification. Corinne is restless and unhappy. A college student, she is failing despite the pressure to excel. Her one fond memory is visiting her grandmother who has since passed away. Corinne is introduced to food and a group of eaters by a classmate, Zoe. Because of the threat of the Sanitation Organization, she tries to eat in secret, but her habit of consumption starts to show. Life without food would be dull and forbidding. "This film presents the eradication of food as something that causes a dystopian society," Says Raffalak.
""I'm a big fan of Jacque Fresco's sustainable global society vision and other theories on a new world civilization. Its very rare I get a script that speaks to ideas of dystopian societies and allowing us to take a closer look at our own soci-economic structures. So, naturally, taking on this role is a dream!" Filming is slated for August 2014, with a trailer to come out Spring 2014, check back for udpates!
